Certified cultivation

Terra Medica - Certified cultivation

Organic cultivation has been taking place in Staffort since 1976 – long before it became a hot topic in public debate. We underwent certification in accordance with the EU regulation on organic farming in 1998.

Organic cultivation right from the start

Our ecological status is reviewed annually by a state registered certification body. The principles for such controls are EC Eco Regulation No. 834/2007 and Regulation (EC) No. 889/2008, along with the relevant executive codes. The certified practice of organic cultivation is the basis for quality in production. Different, particularly stringent and demanding requirements are placed on manufacture – as is customary, of course, for German medicinal products.

The regulations for organic farming include extensive cultivation practices, for instance. Each plant has plenty of open space in which to develop and is tended to intensively. Due to its rich biodiversity, Terra Medica® has a number of ecological niches in which beneficial insects, lizards, hedgehogs and birds can find a home for themselves. At present, attempts are being made to provide homes for bats – not only in the summer, but also in the winter by building custom-designed quarters. Humans are also actively involved, collecting unwelcome parasites or removing the affected parts of the plants. This creates the natural foundation for plant health and perfect quality as regards our medicinal products.
