Cultivation in Karlsruhe

The reasons for growing our own plants have never changed. With re-establishing the Schwabe company in Karlsruhe/Durlach from 1946 onwards, we again installed our own facilities for medicinal plant production. In 1952, 1954 and 1962, greenhouses were even erected on the company grounds in Durlach, though they tended to be more for show until the retirement of Dr Schwabe (third generation) in 1975. A large number of the medicinal plants required were grown on open land nearby. The vast majority, however, was ordered from authorised external collectors. Compared with today, the demand for medicinal plants was somewhat lower.
